In this area, Rotarians strive for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. International Service Projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands, with particular emphasis on the most underprivileged children and families in developing countries.
For the last few years, our Club has focused it's international service efforts on The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund, by sponsoring student scholarships for children to attend school in remote Rainforest communities. We have also assisted the organization with obtaining a well and showers for the students who must live at the school, due to the distance from home.
We have also provided supplies for tsunami damage in Sri Lanka and donated toys to children in Haiti.
This year our Committee has contributed $1,500 to Pure Water for the World, which has been matched with an additional $1,500 from a Massachusetts Club. In addition, we are looking at developing a program to bring aeroponic gardening to a Central American country with thanks from our new member Scott Simmons of Sustainable Gardening.
Our International Service Committee is led by Brenda Gerdes and the committee members are:
